For a writer like me who tends to draw from his limited existence, it’s a wonderful question. Liberation through stepping out of the writers own self and into the world of imagined stories, with imaginary character. I began to study “Ekphrastic” writing earlier this year, studying with two masters - writer and teacher Barbara Krasner (https://barbarakrasner.com) and writer, teacher, publisher, artist Lorette Luzajic. Ekphrastic writing starts with artwork (broadly defined) and the imagination of the writer to then create a poem, flash fiction, short story, etc.
My poem “Decoy” , based on the painting “Beware of Luxury” by Jan Steen, Netherlands, 1663, launches us into a mid-day meal that’s more debauchery than cuisine!
