Coming off holidays into the arctic chill of January and February, many of us in the Northeast hibernate from the cold, like the bears in the surrounding woods. We wear protective clothing. And we spend more time indoors, perhaps even turning our hearts and minds inwards.
For me, I become aware of these shifts after I have already shuttered in and begun to feel a tad shut off. Perhaps I too feel SAD (seasonal affect disorder.)
One winter day this February I took our dog Leo out for a walk. Me sporting snow shoes to navigate 14 inches of wondrous white powder.
With a spate of unseasonably warm weather the next week, I caught a view of the waters again emerging from the snow and ice that had covered them in the prior months - the snow melting and waters beginning to gurgle and flow.
I absorbed the most energizing music Mother Nature produces. And I experienced a lightness and an openness for the first time in weeks. Felt a shift of seasons within me. And I knew spring blossoms would be just around the corner.
