With my husband Jim’s accident nearly six years ago, suddenly some things became unavailable to him. Paralyzed over much of his body and bound to a power wheelchair, hikes into our woods, saunas in our stream-side haven, and airline travel became off-limits. As his life partner, I too gave up these passions - denied myself of them - to honor his new capabilities.
However, with time, we worked together to liberate me from these psychological boundaries. Jim convinced me how important it is to him that I enjoy life as fully as possible; even if it means experiencing moments without him.
“We Walk”, published in the penultimate issue of “Kaleidoscope” magazine, is an ode to reclaiming some of the shared joys before his accident. And in doing so, we have both gained more joy and peace by sharing these lost experiences in a new way.

This poem holds so much. What else but make do with what is present? I am so very glad for your four pawed companion, and the love you and your husband share <3
Powerful words and thoughts here. Important lesson in loving large.
