We all have to make choices. Time, a precious resource is exhaustible and we can’t do all that we want. Even in retirement, I still to manage time; make choices of what not to do in order to do what matters most.
Living surrounded by woodlands and magnificent birdsong, I’d hoped to follow in the footsteps of a good friend and take up ornithology. To witness and honor the birds that fill our skies with organic music. But alas, it isn’t fitting in to the schema of my days.
This poem is a nod to limits and choices. Some limits completely out of our hands, some far from joyous but required nonetheless.
Thanks to Whiptail Journal for publishing in their November 2025 Issue 14. And a special thanks for nominating me for the 2025 Pushcart Prize in Poetry for my poem.

Thanks John!
